This carved Dayak trophy skull is in excellent condition, with a beautifully aged, gray patina. In addition to the fascinating carvings, it features an expertly woven "handle" that is adorned with seashells. The Dayak are a headhunting tribe from Borneo of Indonesia. They are well known for their carved "trophy skulls", which were taken from their enemies. These skulls were used to denote the status of warriors and their families in their community. They would often symbolize valorous deeds, wealth, and social status.
